Life can change in an instant when faced with sight loss.

For Daniel, that moment came unexpectedly in 2018 when he lost his vision at just 8 years old. For him and his family, the challenges that followed felt overwhelming – but they didn’t have to face it alone.

In 2019, Daniel was introduced to MyVision Oxfordshire, and since then, he’s become part of a community that has helped him flourish. He’s participated in our activities such as a visit to Science Oxford, a goalball session with his three younger brothers, and has enjoyed several sessions at Clip n Climb.

Now 14 years old, Daniel has a passion for learning that’s truly remarkable. Outside studying for his GCSEs, he is writing three novels, designing a computer game with his dad, creating music, and passionately diving into subjects like history, languages, textiles, and maths, which has become one of his greatest strengths since his sight loss. In fact, Daniel says that losing his sight has improved his mental arithmetic, as he’s able to visualise numbers in his head.

Daniel hasn’t let sight loss define his limits.

“Don’t give up on the things you’ve previously been doing. Pretty much everything I used to do, I do more now. That is everything. You can do anything.”

At MyVision Oxfordshire, we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to explore their potential, no matter where they are on their sight loss journey. That’s why we work hard to provide activities, support, and resources that help people of all ages – children and adults – live fulfilling, independent lives.

Right now, your gift can go twice as far.

Thanks to our generous match fund*, the first £5,000 we raise will be doubled. That means any donation you make today will have double the impact, helping us reach even more children and adults across Oxfordshire who need our support.

Here’s how your gift can make an impact:

  • A £20 donation could become £40 and help fund a community group, creating spaces where people can connect and grow.
  • A £50 donation could become £100 and provide essential support for those adjusting to sight loss.
  • A £100 donation could become £200 and sponsor an accessible event, offering new opportunities for exploration and independence.

Your support makes a difference.

Whether it’s helping a child, like Daniel, discover their passion or offering guidance to an adult adjusting to life with sight loss, your generosity ensures that no one faces these challenges alone.
