The Story Museum is a wonderful and unique museum in the heart of Oxford which aims to enrich young lives through stories. We have collaborated with The Story Museum to help them create an Audio Descriptive Guide to make the museum a more inclusive and accessible space for visually impaired people.
We are currently seeking blind, partially-sighted, and sighted participants to help create this with us. For this project, we are inviting young people and their families to come to the Museum and take part in a workshop where they get to explore the museum’s galleries and have close encounters with some of its spaces.
Andy Smith, our Service Delivery Manager said, “This is an exciting opportunity to be asked by a fantastic local museum to assist people with visual impairments to enable children to access the museum in a way that they may not have been able to do so before. It is a really good chance to hopefully set a benchmark for audio description for other museums to follow.”
The workshops will be led by The Story Museum, with the support of Professor Hannah Thompson, Storyteller Giles Abbott and MyVision Oxfordshire.
Workshops will be running on the following dates:
- Tuesday, 20 February, 16:00-18:00
- Saturday, 24 February, 15:00-18:00
- Tuesday, 27 February, 16:00-18:00
Participants will get a free visit to the Museum, and workshops will
include games and snacks breaks. Participants can sign up to more
than one session if they like as each will be focused on a different
area of the Museum.
