Margaret has joined MyVision on an internship placement supported by the Thomas Pocklington Trust.
“I heard about the internship through the Retina UK newsletter. Finding a job is hard, even without a visual impairment, so to have this first step into work has been hugely beneficial. The internship has been wonderful. I’ve learnt a lot, and the experience is invaluable.”
Margaret is originally from the north-east, but moved to Oxford for the internship.
“Oxford is great as there are so many wonderful bookshops! I enjoy baking and am determined to be on Bake Off one day. I also enjoy Postcrossing, which is where you can send and receive postcards from people all over the world. It’s a wonderful way to “travel” without leaving your home.”
“I have X-linked Retinitis Pigmentosa, meaning that the faulty gene is on the X chromosome. This means I have a “half dose”, which still affects my vision. For me, my night vision is impacted, and I have some peripheral vision loss, especially in my right eye. Luckily, in my day-to-day life I haven’t encountered too many limitations, although I can’t drive.”
“It’s been reassuring working at MyVision, though, to see what is available out there should I need support.”
